The Kenmore 33166 40-gallon tall natural gas water heater is energy-efficient with foam insulation, and has a cobalt blue Ultra Coat™ glass-lined tank with a large anode rod to protect the tank from corrosion. It also includes the self-cleaning RotoSwirl cold water inlet tube which reduces and protects against mineral buildup in the tank.
A 40-gallon natural gas water heater is the minimum recommended size for a 2- to 4-person household with typical water use.

We figured we would save a few buck and get the floor/scratch n dent model. I would be weary but you can get one heck of a deal though. Don't use our experience as the norm for this product. The first unit installed easy and fairly fast. Fill then fired the unit up and withing a few moments the tank started to leak (factory defect on a weld). We had to drain ane remove the unit. Called Sears and after a few calls they took it back under warranties full replacement. The unit was not even a minute in use. After all was said and done Sears was a good choice and was easy to work with. Now for how this unit will funtion as it should and last the lifetime is a wait and see. First day of use has yet to start. Should be a good value but only time will tell. Will write a better review as time goes on.
The water is very hot. It didn't take long for the contractor (my personal one) to install. The water heated up fast and it's great having hot water again. I've only had the water heater for a short time. I brought it to replace a previous Kenmore heater that lasted well beyond the warranty and never had to be serviced.
I bought this to replace a 30 gallon heater. I noticed a difference right away. The heat setting is lower and the water stays hot longer. I think I will be saving money on my water heating costs.

We bought this product around 3 years ago. After the first year warranty went out this heater started to give us problems. It went out without reason and thanks God my husband could re lit it and it worked again few months and we went on the same procedure again and again until now that It broke down finally few days ago. One friend of mine ( Technician) came to inspect the unit and told us what part was needed. I called to Sears and the customer representative said that he cannot request the part without sendind a kenmore techician to do the job. I explained to him that my friend will install the part without charge and he said that then I cannot get the part and he will need to check the policy because maybe that part it was not covered under the warranty. He offered me to buy the SEARS Warranty to cover the repairs. One year for $200.00. What a rip off! I will prefer to spend more money and buy other water heater on other place that value more my business.
My wife and I have lived in our home for 17 years. We purchased our first Kenmore water heater in 2001. It began to have problems after only two years. We replaced it with another Kenmore water heater in 2003. It began to have problems about three years after we got it. Call me stupid, but yes, we replaced it with another Kenmore water heater in 2008(I replaced the thermolcouple twice). And yes, after about two years it began to have problems too. Sears replaced this one for us in 2012 and GUESS WHAT?! You guessed right! It's two years later and NO HOT WATER!!! We will NEVER purchase a Kenmore product again!!!

Seems to be your basic gas water heater. Easy pick-up at store and with a little help it was easy to install. Some cities require a permit and a licensed contractor for installation. Check with yours first.
We needed a hot water heater immediately and found the best deal at Sears. The clerk was friendly and helpful. We will not hesitate to go to our local Sears store the next time we need an appliance.
