The Kenmore 33114 40-gallon natural gas water heater is energy-efficient with foam insulation, and has a cobalt blue Ultra Coat™ glass-lined tank with a large anode rod to protect the tank from corrosion. It also includes the self-cleaning RotoSwirl cold water inlet tube which reduces and protects against mineral buildup in the tank.

Water heaters are not replaced frequently. Getting the new Kenmore heater recently showed me the technological improvements over the last. The light indicates the water heater is working or not working. If it is not working, troubleshoot by looking up the type of light on the chart. If the flame goes out, relight the heater with the control instead of a match.
We bought this WH assuming that the 12-year warranty actually meant something. It's Kenmore, right? Within two years it quit and the control system, a Sears part (as opposed to Honeywell) had to be replaced. Two years later, the same thing happened, and every time we had to pay over $100 for the service call. That time it was a bad thermocouple. Finally, it happened again a week ago. Probably a bad thermocouple again. I'll never know because when I called Sears to get it repaired, they told me it couldn't be done for a week. So we're supposed to go without hot water for a week because Sears appliances are ****? At that point we cut our losses, junked the water heater and replaced it with a more reliable brand. So long, Kenmore. I don't recommend it.
Works great! Watch your temp setting. I set mine between Hot and Low and the water is just right. If you live in a cold climate, the 2 inch insulation would be what you need, along with the water heater blanket. I don't but the water heater is located in an unheated space and will still use the blanket. I installed this myself, so if you are handy, no problem.
This has replaced a roughly equivalent Kenmore gas water heater that finally died after 27 years. While this one is brand new (no history) it seems as well-made as the old one, with some updated features (electronic vs mechanical controls). It's very nice, and installed quickly.

it is a nice unit we arranged for sears to contract someone to do the install after the fellow came to install he told us it would cost another $120.00 to install two valves where he cut the lines to remove the old one. We were disappointed since two valves do not cost $120.00 and the lines were cut to take the old water heater out right where the valves had to be installed.
I owned a Kenmore Power Mizer 9 since May 2002 which was Warranted for 9 years and I was going on 12 years with no problem. I believed that it was time to upgrade to the Kenmore 40 gallon 12 year Gas Water Heater because of the reliability of my previous experience. My new Gas Water Heater which I purchased on 10/8/13 is so awesome. No pilot to light, hot water all the time and extremely efficient. Installation was done professionally. I'm staying with Kenmore products in my home using Sears as my Store.
The installer and his helper did an excellent job of installing the hot water heater and disposing of the old heater. They were polite and protected the flooring in the process.
Had a standard build water hearter, that had a thermal element go bad. Rather than repair an aging system, decided to replace the tank with this one. Has been about a month, works great. The water seems much warmer than before (be careful). Has a fast turn over after showers and water use. Had professional install, was done and working in 45 mins. *Would have given 5 star, but phone customer service screwed up the order and delayed installation by a day. Very pushy about the additional warranty, and some quotes auotmatically include the $239**
