Easy to install. Easy to clean. Cooks quickly. The light warning of hot burner stays lit until burner is cool enough to touch, which causes me to check that burners are off each time I pass by the cooktop, but that is not such a bad thing. Also nice that one burner is a double element-can be used for small or big pans.

This cooktop replaced a much more expensive cooktop we had which had a total electronic shutdown, so I purchased this new one based on lower price alone. I removed the old cooktop and installed this one with no problems into a granite countertop. We've had ceramic cooktops since they came out years ago, so we're well aware of how they can scratch or get stained with boil-overs. I guess we're neat freaks, because this has never been a problem, and the surface of this cooktop is still as clear and shiny as it was on day 1. My only concern was the first time it was turned on to use, and there was an odor of some sort--but that lasted only a couple of uses.

We have had this cook top for around 3 1/2 years and really love it. The only negative thing I have found is the ceramic knobs. When they get hot the paint chips. I am going to replace them with stainless steel knobs. Cleaning the stovetop is very easy make sure when you recieve your cook top you put the sealant on cook top. When cleaning make sure stovetop is very cold. Use Weiman glass cook top heavy duty cleaner and polish (can purchase at ******* or ******). This polish removes any burned on foods and marks. Instructions:Pour cleaner on dirty areas and rub with paper towell this will remove all burnt and dirty areas repeat if needed to all areas until clean. After cleaning use Windex and paper towell (Bounty) to shine cooktop. Your stovetop will always look brand new. I hope this information was a big help.

I bought a house not long ago, and the appliances needed a serious updating. The previous owner had installed a new counter top, which I really like. However, he kept the very old, (like from the 70's...possibly even late 60's), Kenmore coil cooktop in the midst of upgrading the counter. Since I didn't want to potentially damage the new counter top, I had very specific cut out dimensions to follow. This specific Kenmore cooktop is the only one I could find that would go right in without my having to call in a counter top professional. But, I must admit, that I was hesitant in making my purchase due to the numerous very negative reviews of it. It further frustrated me that neither of my local Sear's stores even carried a display model of it for me to look at. Nevertheless, knowing the dimensions I was stuck with, and knowing I really didn't have the extra money to call in a professional, I decided to go ahead and order this cooktop. I decided to bank on the good name that Kenmore has had for many years. I'm glad I did! Not only has this cooktop kept me from what I'm sure would've been a nightmare in which the counter top could've been messed up, it's a GREAT cooktop! I've been cooking on it for a while now, and have had absolutely no trouble. Yes, the burners get really hot, but that's not atypical for ceramic cooktops. This is my third ceramic cooking surface that I've used since 2002. The two others were Whirlpools, and they got just as hot, but it just goes with the territory of these ceramic tops. I have no complaints about it because it's almost, sort of like, cooking on a gas range with how quickly it gets hot. Furthermore, I have not had the knobs get overheated to the point where I can't touch them. I had 4 burners, (two on high and two on medium-high), going the other night, and the knobs never got even warm to the touch. Clean up is easy as anything. Naturally, like with all other ceramic tops, you have to wait until the unit is cooled down in order to wipe it off. So, basically, if you follow the instructions that come with this cooktop, you should have absolutely no trouble in the cleaning department. I think a lot of people mistakenly believe that these ceramic tops are just like the old coil tops. They are most certainly not the same. You do have to take a little extra care of these ceramic tops, but they are SO much better than the coil tops in every way...from cooking to cleaning! While I don't pretend to know exactly why a lot of the people wrote highly negative reviews of this cooktop, from what I have read, it sounds like a lot of user error more than anything else. Sure, there are "lemons" in every bunch of electronics, but please don't allow the negative reviews to deter you from considering this product. I don't believe you'll be sorry!

Just cooked on this cooktop. I cook a lot! But before I have finished cooking the knobs are so hot, they will burn your hand. I called technical support, finally got to talk to someone. He said that it said it bold letters that if use a lot of elements to cook on the entire cooktop gets very hot. Why has there not been a recall?? Gonna try to replace it with a different brand. I thought Kenmore was better than that. I had a Kenmore stovetop years ago, and it didn't do that.

Had to replace one of the burners at about 5 years and it lasted as long as the warranty; then worked intermittently until it would only stay on and on High. I don't consider 5 years for such an expensive appliance acceptable. There are a number of better configured (in my opinion) units and as I write this (12/2010) at a better price - a Maytag, for instance has the larger burners at the back where any smoke/odors will be picked up by the hood vent better. Bigger pots usually are on for a longer time so at the back makes more sense than having them at the front like the Kenmore. However, I am replacing the current one with the same, newer model, not because I am satisfied with it but because the cut-out dimensions for the Kenmore are smaller than every other electric cooktop except the GE Profile series that retail for about $400 more. I don't want to start cutting into my solid surface counters and to pay a contractor makes the whole thing prohibitively expensive.
