We usually get our appliances from Sears and have been happy with them, but so far this range hood is giving us major headaches. (We chose it because it was rated as quiet and powerful for its size, plus it looks nice.)
When first installed two weeks ago the fan was weirdly loud, with an irritating rattle on the lower settings. Today a technician came and replaced the motor and fan blades under our extended warranty. The thing is now quieter, but has practically no pull. It's much weaker than the fan on the 10-year-old microhood that we replaced.
I have asthma and need to manage the air quality in my house carefully, so this is a real problem for me. I just called Sears again and they gave us another appointment in two days, so we'll see. I asked them to send someone who can measure the CFMs being moved by the fan. The repairman who came today didn't have a device to do that.
PS Everything's fine with our kitchen exhaust pipe and roof cap -- both are new and state of the art.

This hood was set up to vent outside. Every time I broil steaks unit cannot eliminate smoke my house smoke alarm goes off. Everytime I fry (not Burn) bacon my house smoke alarm goes off. With my former 15 year old Kenmore model this never happened

The positive reviews influenced me to purchase this hood. It was on line and I didn't view it. It has been installed for one week and it is being replaced today. This hood is very noisy but my main complaint it that the hood gets VERY HOT. I burned myself several times. The bulbs (can use up to 75 watt) are placed forward between the aluminum hood and a plastic bottom shield. This encasement heats the hood. I tried replacing them with 40 watt bulbs - still very hot and needed to be voided at all costs.

Our installation vents to the outside so a filter isn't required making it almost maintenance free. The dual lights and variable speed fan are fantastic features.

I bought this as my old was not powerful enough, It's a great product for the price and I love the black and Steel combination it goes well with the rest of my kenmore appliances.

I like this hood, it works well at containing steam and cooking vapors. I also like how it looks, it is simple but looks sophisticated and matches our black appliances. The lights included work well too, they illuminate the area well and eliminate the need for excess background light.

Picked up this range hood (after researching on the internet) on Nov. 9, on Dec. 19, it would not work, either exhaust fan or lights, breaker was tripped in garage panel. I thought it was an electrical problem, so I called my electrician, who verified installation, breaker was ok, and that power was being supplied to the range hood. So, range hood not exactly a quality product, now I have to wait a few days for the repair person to come (still under warranty, only worked for 6 weeks), and then either repair or replace unit. I recommend staying far away from this model. UPDATE - 12/23/11 - Repair person came today, apparently when the unit was installed (contractor), they kinked the black power wire under the black metal cover. The unit worked for a few weeks but the kink eventually caused a short, and tripped the power breaker. Repair person fixed the wire, reinstalled the cover being careful not to kink the wire under it, and the range hood now works again. Took a total of 10 minutes, so a minor repair, apparently not a hardware defect.

I'm very impressed with this range hood. It's a couple inches deeper and taller than my last hood so it collects more steam. It's very quiet even on the high speed. The dual light is great and has a cover that can be removed and cleaned. Underneath is a large plate which makes cleaning easy. There are two large vents located on either side of the large plate. I would recommend this range hood to anyone looking for an affordable hood. I almost went with a cheaper one and I'm glad I didn't.

We purchased this model in 2004 (same specs and design today, appears to be manufactured for Kenmore by NuTone). Easy installation to replace original range hood in our home. We found the variable light and fan speed to be nice features and used throughout life of the unit. Even though rated as high CFM, it didn't provide good capture of all four stove top positions of our Kenmore stove. We are replacing th hood because the paint along the underside lip and inside of the front of the range hood is bubbling and peeling off. We have used only warm water and dish detergent as per the cleaning instructions in the user manual to clean the interior of grease buildup. I conclude the quality control of the enamel paint process may be sub-standard. Regardless I would expect a product in this price range to last much longer then 6 years. The Kenmore dishwasher and stove installed the same month are fine with zero problems as have all other Kenmore products we have owned over 30 years. I rated this below average due to the paint life and need to replace at 6 year mark, not functional reliability or performance.

but i keep hitting my head on the front of it. it sticks out too far. when i cook on the back burners, and look into a pot or stir something i bend my head into the range hood. the bottom of the hood is out of eyesight and wham!, i hit my head. not fun. it is powerful and does a great job, but is painful.
