Don't be afraid of an HE washer!
When I purchased my townhouse a year ago, I was thrilled to find that there was a washer and dryer in a laundry room on the first floor, a much more convenient location than the basement. It turned out to be a mixed blessing. The old Kenmore Series 70 washer was extremely noisy. When Sears had this model on sale, along with the bundled dryer, I couldn't resist. I was somewhat nervous about buying an HE washer. The published reviews on such machines are very mixed, to say the least. I downloaded the instruction manual and read it even before the machine was delivered. I was determined to do it right, in order to possibly avoid the problems others have reported with HE washers. I have only done three loads to this point but am very pleased. It is wonderfully quiet (particularly compared to my old washer). The laundry comes out clean. A full load on the Normal/Regular cycle took 45 minutes. I washed a queen size comforter on the "Bulky" cycle with an extra rinse. It took an hour and 20 minutes. The noises are different than a conventional washer. The different loading routine is somewhat difficult to get used to. I filled the machine with one load of clothes only to realize that I forgot to first pour the HE detergent in the bottom of the basket. Out the clothes came, in went the detergent, back in went the clothes. Don't be afraid of this HE washer! It's great!

Not Worth the Savings!
Bought this washer after my GE Front Loader died after 7yrs. I didn't want to spend almost $1000 on another front loader; I just wanted something that cleaned my family's clothes. I didn't mind a top loader as I use my mom's often and think it works fine. I wanted an HE washer that would save on water, but this has been a horrible purchase! I just received it today and have already arranged to exchange it. I don't mind spending another $220 for a front loader that I know will get my clothes clean! The agitator is small and doesn't move my clothes around at all. I kept pausing the wash to see what was going on inside and everything stayed exactly the same way as it was put in until the very end; It basically soaked in water, nothing more! We are a very active family - triathlons, mountain biking, bmx racing, etc.. - and need a washer that does more than soak our clothes! I could have filled the tub with water, put detergent in it, dropped my clothes inside and it would have been the same thing! My husband's clothes still had funky/sweaty body oder (underwear, socks, even under shirt sleeves...eeeww!). The tub is also very loose, causing it to swing around during the wash or spin cycles, and the wash is noisy! Spend a little more and avoid this washer, PLEASE! The ONLY way this washer will get clothes anywhere close to clean is if you keep the loads VERY small (tiny!), like near the tiny agitator, which in that case would make the rest of the 3.8 cu. ft. tub useless! We are a busy family of 4 (includes 2 very dirty males) who don't have time for tiny loads or stinky clothes! HORRIBLE!

Well worth the money.

so i bought this a month ago, i waited to write a review because of the horror stories ive read, but the price was great got free delivery and had a percent off so cost swayed me after christmas to give it a go. its in the basement so the noise is not an issue for us it does sound different but not really bothersome after we leveled out no shaking n shimming across the tile floor it did startle the dogs at first lol, but back to the washer i do wish i bought a little bigger size but ive washed everything from sheetz to comforters to everyday soiled clothes and baby items everything comes out great minus the one time first load i over loaded thinking wow this holds alot which it does but not as much as i was expecting lol, i changed laundry soap to gain for he washers and started with the downey softner ball which you must use even though it states it has the softner compartment it does not and also used gain softner n dryer sheetz everything is clean bright and smells great so far not a single issue other than what was our own fault. you must read the directions it is nothing like your older top loads but it does get everything clean and i have yet to have any lint or hair stuck on anything as others have stated. this is my first ever kenmore we have always been a maytag family but with the last two appliances not what we had hoped in performance so fingers crossed with longevity with kenmore & cant wait to get the dryer :) remember what opinions are......everyone has one. give it a chance and use it correctly and you should have no issues!

Purchased and debated

Purchased this item and debated for three of four days before using it to determine if I should return it. I read the many negative reviews but decided to set it up and try it. I t so far works as advertised. First HE washer that I have owned. It is a different to get used to you after all these years using a traditional washing machine with full agitator. Son seems to think it did wonders on his pants and that they are the cleanest and softest he has felt them since new. Washer shakes quite a bit on spin cycle but have suspicion that this has to do with the leveling of the machine. Will recheck the level of the machine and try again. No noted white streaks or tangle of the clothes as other reviews. Does not seem to take excessive time in washing. Clothes a little less wet after spin cycle than in traditional machine but not sure if this is much of an advantage. Will level washer and continue to use then update review. First ever Kenmore purchase and prayerful that it works as advertised. Great bargain at $385 and some change after tax. Will update after trying a few more times. Talked with customer rep online before taking out of box to ensure I could return without any re- stocking fee if I was not satisfied with the product. Rep ensured me that I would have complete satisfaction or I could have my money back or exchange without any restocking fee. Rep even gave me team that I could call should I wish to return item and had an problem at the store. So far good buy for the money. The only thing I wish is that my store would have had the one in stock with the detergent and fabric softener dispenser for $20 more. Poor in stock selection at my local Sears I would have rate higher.

So disappointed

We bought this washer for our brand new house, and left my beloved 15 year old Kenmore in our condo. How I miss that thing!! We've now had this new washer for 8 months, so I feel that I've given myself enough time to learn the tricks of how to work with it. I can't. Every.Single.Dark load needs to be put through the rinse/spin cycle again. There is white residue all over the clothes, even when I wash them inside out. Each load takes so long to go through, even on the express setting. I hate that I can't throw a forgotten towel in after it's started without "unlocking" the lid, which sometimes takes a full minute. If I could be the one determining the water level, I would be happier. I think that there is not enough water used in the cycles and it leaves soap scum because of that. But I can't change that, the machine has it's own mind. I've tried using just a teaspoon of liquid detergent and it still leaves soap scum. Another thing I dislike is that it leaves clothes very, very wrinkled. They are tangled together, too. If I want to wash something that won't go in the dryer, it definitely, positively will need to be ironed. Not just a touch up either, a long, hot ironing session. Regretting my choice now :(

Great Machine!

Our old Kenmore (more than 20 years old) finally died and we had to find a replacement. We were happy with Kenmore in the past and so started there. We also wanted the High Energy machine but wanted to stay away from the front load machine. The sale price was good, the machine was available and close enough for me to pick up at the store. Set up was a snap but a few reminders to make sure your supply hoses are secure...that last 2/3rd turn on the hoses is critical unless you like a puddle of water under your new machine. You should also assure that your which is your hot and cold tap (mine were set up opposite of standard with hot on the right and cold on the left...go figure). We've had our washing machine now for four days and have done several loads. It's proving to be a trooper. If it will last us 20 years we'll be thrilled to replace it with another Kenmore then.

Beats My LG HE Front Loader Hands Down!

About two months ago, I replaced the LG front load HE washing machine that came with my house. The LG was a high-end model with tons of features that I never used. I really disliked the front loader for many reasons, but mainly because I had to clean the door gasket after every load or risk my clothes smelling from mildew. I waited to write this review to see if the new machine started to smell of mildew, but it hasn't. I love my new Kenmore HE! Yes, it is freakishly loud, but that is the only drawback and is the reason I reduced my top rating by one star. Following the directions (pour in HE soap first, then load clothes around the impeller), my clothes come out much cleaner than with any other washing machine I've used. The clothes also finish relatively dry and, yes, somewhat wrinkled, but no more so than with other HE machines I have used. The cycle times are about the same as my old LG. If noise is not a problem for you (it wasn't for me--I read these reviews before I made my purchase and knew that this washer was considered loud) then I highly recommend the Kenmore 25102.

great washer follow directions for clean clothes

I purchased this after having a kenmore for over 11 yrs that stopped spinning out the excess water and my dryer quit working. I was skeptical because of the negative reviews but decided to purchase this HE top loader instead of a front loader and the issues friends have been having with their front loaders. Most even said they would go back to a top loader. I am impressed with how clean the clothes are coming out and not as wet which takes less drying time. Read and follow the directions and your clothes will come out clean. I have 3 boys, one of which has a disability and Im doing 2 to 3 loads a day. I did have to go out and purchase the ball for my fabric softener but it was just over $2 so no big deal. The noises and clicks at first were weird but got used to them. I dont notice the noise on the spin cycle as its in the garage.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

This is a great washing machine

I've only used it for 3 loads so far but this is a fantastic washing machine - particularly compared to my much higher-priced Whirlpool which completely bit the dust after 7 years. I hope I continue to be happy with this unit and that I can buy more Kenmore products.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Really cleans!

I don't know what all the bad reviews are about. I am glad I didn't let them change my mind about this washer. It is wonderful! I didn't know what to expect from an HE washer, but liked the lack of an agitator and the idea of saving water. We have had the machine and matching dryer about six weeks now and have no complaints. Clothes come out much cleaner than with our old washer and seem to smell fresh longer. Yes, clothes wrinkle during the spin cycle but that is because this machine spins like crazy, which saves dry time. The dryer takes any wrinkles out anyhow. Washer does take a bit longer than our old one, but I feel it is because it really cleans well and also because the spin cycle is longer. With the shortened dry time, you make up for it. None of the residue problems others speak of. We use Tide liquid he detergent and Downey drop ball in every load. This washer isn't loud like others say either. Just sounds different. If you're on the fence, go for it. You won't be disappointed if you follow the directions, use the right detergent, etc.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Noisy

Machine washes clothes fine, but it makes a lot of noise while it is "sensing" the size of your load. Also, the cycle takes much longer to complete than my previous washer - not sure how that equals energy efficiency. On the plus side, it does have a large capacity
