worst ever
I have had Sears appliances before but I was flabbergasted at how badly designed this is. Size-be careful if you have laundry closet. I have to pop the closet door off the channel to close. "Fancy protruding washer door is unnecessary and creates a problem. Spin cycle - so loud it sounds like an airplane engine a whole house away. Door rubber gasket - well fold is so deep it eats small articles of clothing so they just lay in the door well. This fold also holds at least a half cup of water after the cycle as does the bleach tray on the machine. No wonder there are mold problems. You have to be extra careful easing the tray open or it splashes out on the floor. Each time I wash I have to use paper towels to dry out these two areas. All in all a real design failure. Don't waste your money.

Would buy again

Washer - does a good job cleaning - not too loud (unlike a prior reviewer suggested) - fits nicely into condo space - we wanted something larger than a compact set, and this was the only set that fit the bill - only mild downside is that about a 1/4 cup of water is left over in the detergent drawer after it's finished washing. It can be easily dumped by taking the tray out (paper towels are not necessary as some reviewer said) and all is well, but this does take another 20 seconds Dryer - so far, we are very pleased with the good job it does drying The only real problem we had with the process was that Sears was not careful about screening who they hired to install the washer/dryer sets - the first person refused to install in a building and left the set in our living room. The next person either damaged the front door of the washer (or it came that way) and we had to get a new waser delivered. The Sears people were very helpful on the phone, and in the end, it all worked out and we are happy with our new washer-dryer set, after a month of use. Hopefully we just had some bad luck and this won't happen to you, but I would recommend Sears be a little more careful in screening their delivery teams.

best bang for the buck!

I have had these now for about 2 months. I wanted a front loading washer forever! So when it came time to purchase, I looked everywhere for a deal. I found these (washer AND dryer) for $1100 at Sears Presidents day sale. I have to say that I knew front loaders use less water, I was freaking out how little water this thing uses! I was sniffing all of our clothes and inspecting them to see if they indeed got clean! They do. I like that the buttons are right in front of the machines,so I don't have to reach over them to start a load. -AND I had them stacked to make use of the space in my laundry room. As far as the spin cycle, it DOES start off a little clanky, and then DOES sound like an airplane, and I DO wonder sometimes if the whole thing is gonna shake itself to pieces, but it only lasts about 10 seconds or so. As far as the design, ya, I can't close my laundry room door anymore, (I'm thinking of putting in a folding door) but I don't know if that can be helped. Washers and dryers are GIANT these days. My house isn't even that old, and I would've had that issue with just about any washer and dryer. I'm also told that all front loading washers open from the right. With the way my laundry room is situated, it's a little awkward to load the washer, but for the price, I'm making the adjustment. Afterwards, I just leave the machine open to dry out. The dryer seems HUGE to me. It doesn't get blazing hot like my other dryer did,but my clothes are dry! Maybe better for my clothes? I'm actually really happy with my machines. I'd have given 5 stars if it weren't so noisy at the beginning of the spin cycle, but again, not really that big a deal to me. I would recommend these.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Marvelous Laundry Combo

I've had this combo for over 3 months now, and I absolutely love it. Anybody who does not understand "high efficiency" certainly knows nothing about how they work & would easily provide a negative review. This washer/dryer combo is excellent, in quality, style and performance. I have had no problems with either appliance. Yhey look beautiful in my laundry room and do an excellent job cleaning/drying my laundry. I am well pleased with this selection.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Quiet, Efficient, Effective

Bought this and the matching dryer because we have a very tight laundry closet, and the industry seems to be moving toward larger and larger laundry machines, so most front-loading washers and dryers are too big to fit. These just barely fit into the allotted space. Also, the pair was on sale at Sears at the time. Like all front load washers, this one does not fill with water, but rather efficiently tumbles the clothes through a small amount of water collected at the bottom of the drum. It is efficient enough with water and energy use to qualify for utility rebates where I live. We've had it for about a month and have done maybe a dozen loads of laundry, ranging from typical assortments of clothes, to queen-size sheets, towels, and throws. So far, it's been great. Compared to the top-loading unitized washer/dryer it's replacing, this washer is smooth and quiet. The loudest thing during a normal and balanced load is the drain pump, which is about as loud as a dishwasher drain pump. Our previous machine sounded something like a helicopter landing in the living room during the spin cycle. This one sounds more like a sewing machine. It does vibrate a bit at the beginning of the spin cycle if the load is mostly large, bulky items. But even those loads even out and the spin is smooth once it speeds up. Maybe reviewers that have really loud and wobbly machines didn't have the shipping bolts removed. The large capacity is great. Many of the newer front loaders have 4.1-4.3 cubic foot capacities, but I have no complaints with this 3.7 cu-ft. unit. I've been able to wash a queen-size sheet set along with two bath towels and three throw blankets in one load with no problems. I appreciate that this unit comes with a "hold-open" latch. Because front load washers need to be water tight, they seal shut when the door is closed and so the interior cannot air dry between uses. This often leads to mold in the seals and hoses. This unit has a gray plastic latch that secures the door ajar and is meant to be used when the washer is not in use, so that the door seal and interior can air out. It holds the door about two inches ajar. But if someone were to really slam the door shut, the latch conveniently folds out of the way and allows the door to close normally. The owner's manual also instructs you to leave the detergent drawer ajar between uses, again to promote airflow and drying. I usually also empty it of the small amount of water left in there after a cycle. This unit is made by Electrolux for Kenmore, and appears to be based on a Frigidaire model that Consumer Reports rates fairly well (Very Good performance for cleaning and efficiency). The one downside is that there is no easy access to the drain filter. In my case that means if I ever need to clean it, I'll need to get some help unstacking the dryer so I can remove the top cover and front face in order to get at the filter. I hope that doesn't happen for a very long time.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Good machine for the footprint and price!

I live in a condo with a small closet designed for a unitized or stackable washer/dryer set. This is the largest unit the closet could accomodate. I'm happy with the capacity (way bigger than a unitized design) and performance of this washer. Since it's in my main living area, my only compliant is how loud it is during the final spin and it's a little hard to pour bleach in the dispenser wtih spilling a little. The washer always operates smoothly. Overall, I'm happy with this purchase.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Don't waste your money unless you want mold and tangled clothing

Moved into a house with this washer and dryer already installed. After several washes all of my family's clothing, including a newborns clothing, started to smell like mildew. Found black and brown mildew growing inside the rim of the plastic and inner lining of the washer. Also found black mold growing inside and on the underside of the detergent compartment.I run a hot cycle with bleach to ensure that mold does not grow after using the washer, but I still need to deep clean it every month by scrubbing everything inside the washer and detergent compartment to remove mold. Also, fabric softener remains in its little compartment and does not enter the wash at all. On top of the mildew and mold, fabric softener that stays in place, all my clothing ends up in a tangled knotted mess after every wash. It requires 10 minutes to untangle it all. This product does not deserve the 1 star rating I gave it. Bottom line: Requires constant maintenance to ensure that mold and mildew does not grow out of control and to prevent clothing from smelling, clothing ends up in a tangled ball. Dryer that accompanies this washer is also a bust. Clothing tangles, rips, and cannot remove all the lint from the lint compartment. Big fire hazard.

Overall
Nice mid level washer for price.

We love it - simple and practical settings. We bought the matching washer and dryer set as Black Friday deal 2013. Still running well, very efficient with regard to electricity and water usage. Clothes come out clean with HE tide detergent - even the soiled ones. Sounds like a solid high speed motor, spins really fast on high setting! Time will tell if it's built as good as the older ones. I do recommend leaving door open to let dry out or if you are an everyday washer use the monthly or bi monthly tide cleaner and run empty to keep everything fresh. I do wish they would include the high pressure hoses and power cord - doesn't seem like those should be extra, more like standard equipment. Oh and I would pass on the stands if you at handy. The stock stands are expensive and not very practical. We built out own for about $75 and put baskets under.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
