I've owned this fridge for over a year now. It's been a great, basic french-door fridge. We haven't had any problems with it. There are a few drawbacks about it though. When you open the right side of the french door, you cannot also open the cheese/meat drawer on that side. It hits the door divider after opening about 3 inches. That's poor design. You should be able to access that drawer after opening only the right door. It's silly that you have to open both french doors to get the drawer open. Also, the ice machine is nicely tucked away inside the left french door but that also makes for a very small ice maker. We've never run out on a day-to-day basis but when we are entertaining, I have to plan ahead and save ice days before (the ice maker is also very slow, even on the accelerated ice mode) or just purchase ice. Also, the light to the water/ice dispenser only comes on when you push the lever back which leaves guests in the dark as they try to figure out the settings before pushing. Also, when you pull out the freezer, there's an upper shelf to store small items but it only pulls out a few inches so you can't view everything you are storing up there. Again, why not have full extension so you can see everything?? Lastly, the stainless steel finish seems cheap. The coating on it does not clean or polish well, no matter what polish I try (even the Kenmore polish that came with the unit). So it always looks streaky. My previous appliances were Kenmore Elite S/S as well and they always looked nice after polishing. I really like the french door style over my old side-by-side.

The refrigerator is nice - it's quiet and works well. BUT - whoever designed the in door ice dispenser should have a new job asking "do you want fries with that"! When it dispenses ice it drops ice all over. Ice crystals pieces of ice all fall on the floor with every type of glass we use. It makes a real mess there should be a recall on this item to repair the ice dispenser it's really a disappointment.

Like any other appliance, this refrigerator needs maintenance and care. After reading some of the bad reviews, i can understand some of the issues but some reviews are completely unrelated to the product. First, if you read the warranty on almost all the appliances sold today, none will cover cosmetic damages. The same is true for your brand new car. None will cover the interior for obvious reasons. Shelves and guards don't brake by themselves. If you have kids, i don't recommend this or any kind of french refrigerator because even the lower shelves on the fridge size will be too high for them, this is specially true for door guards as they tend to pull the items instead of lifting them. This modern fridge have electronic components, if the electric grid in your location is not reliable and you already lost a TV and and a radio, don't blame the equipment. If you leave near the ocean like i do, the gouge on the stainless steel is not exterior grade, this means that you have to take care of it. Rust spots are normal with this kind of stainless steel and they are preventable with WD40. If you already have rust on the stainless steel, just clean them with WD40 as well. Do not use stainless steel cleaners. If your warranty expired or you did not read the small letters, don't blame the retailer but blame yourself. Etc, etc... Now, the fridge is excellent for the price. Mine cost $1487 including taxes and I did not replaced a 20 year old fridge so i know what to expect from a modern appliance. First off, mine is connected to a 1500 watts battery backup to protect the unit from surges and to cover for the generator gap. Then the first thing i did was to cover the unit with WD40 like i do to all my stainless steel appliances. The unit itself is excellent and i love the door ice maker (still figuring out how it achieves ice temperature in the fridge area). The ice maker is small but quick and it uses an infrared sensor instead of a mechanical level like older models so as soon as the ice drops, it makes more. Also the ice maker design is by gravity instead of a screw designed like side by side units. I love LED lights and this unit has a lot of them. You will not find a dark spot in any area including the freezer. My freezer is in an enclosure so i don't know if its noisy but it don't feel like it. Things I don't like is that the ice maker does not work if the door is open, so a multitasking person like me cannot open the right door to grab a soda and fill the cup with ice at the same time. Doors do not close by gravity most of the time so if you are accustomed to leaving your fridge door open because it will close itself, it will not happen in this unit. Fortunately like many modern appliances, it will tell you when the doors are open for a prolonged time. Other than these inconsequential inconveniences, there are no other issues that i identify. If you purchase and take proper care of it, you will love it for years...
After always purchasing all of my major appliances from Sears - I was more than disappointed after purchasing this high-end refrigerators on Dec 7 only to have the freeze thaw out on it's own within the first week. I read the instruction book completely to ensure the temp adjustments I made could be tolerated (I like my fridge cold and certainly items in my freezer to stay frozen). After returning refrigerator and freezer to default settings, it auto-corrected. Within 4 days the freezer completely thawed out again with no changes to settings. I had to go through the extra expense of getting a chest freezer to preserve food I was preparing for the holidays. Now the fridge portion will not stay cold. All of this is far more disappointing then the noise factor.

bought this fridge 3yrs ago. condensing tube broke and now sears tech advises 1174.00 to fix it. Plus no guarantees once fixed. made this fridge worthless. I look around and found hundreds if not thousands of others having same issue. DONT BY THIS PRODUCT! You will regret it like I do. oh called Kenmore sears hotline they said sorry nothing they can do. Should have bought the extended warranty they said. Really I said how bout the other folks the hundreds if not thousands of others? Phone went silent. Truly worthless.
Bought this fridge or a similar one to it 12/2012 with an ice maker installed. The refrigerator works well so far, but the ice maker not so much. It makes ice, but will not dispense it. The ice maker was repaired twice within the first 15 months of ownership and now requires a third repair. The original nor the two repairs lasted more than 9 months. I did not buy the extended warranty so Sears will not pay for additional repairs. And the worst part was dealing with the front line customer solutions employees. One actually admitted that Sears can't get reliable parts because of the slumping economy. I can not recommend Sears ice makers that come in their refrigerators.
