A basic no frills dishwasher that does the job.
I've read a few reviews about this dishwasher before I bought it. Even thought we could afford a more expensive dishwasher with all the bells and whistles, at the end of the day we asked the question, what do we need this dishwasher to do? Do we need it to walk the dog, take out the trash and sweep the floor? No, we just need it to wash the dishes we load up and that's about it. Do we need it to wash our most expensive dish and silverware and pots and pans. No, because we will always wash those by hands. We need to load the daily dishes, walk away, and forget about it until we come back to unload it. Now, if there was a dishwasher that unloaded itself and restock the dishes, well, that would be a no-brainer. I have washed my dishwasher safe pot and pans in it just fine. This is a dishwasher that washes dishes, period. It's basic. The racks are basic and holds breakfast and dinner dishes (including glassware) for four people nicely. Anything more than that then I would need a second load cycle. No problem, I've done it before. We have stainless steel appliances and while its not the 'prettiest' stainless steel appliance in the kitchen, it fits nicely under the cabinetry without drawing too much attention to itself. If anyone walked into my home and complained that my dishwasher wasn't as pretty as my fridge or stove, then I don't think that's a person I would want to have back in my kitchen. I've read in many reviews that the dishwasher is noisy. We have an open floor plan and the dishwasher is literally 27 feet away from the television. I've never had to turn the television up because the dishwasher is going and is to noisy. In fact, I'm watching television now and the dishwasher is going. I can barely hear it. To be honestly, I wouldn't hear it at all if I wasn't thinking about it. My dishwasher is under the cabinetry with a solid thick piece of granite counter-top and that may be a buffer for the sound. However, I do not experience a noise problem with this dishwasher. I'm writing this review after one month of ownership. I'll return in 6 months (if I remember) to give a follow-up.

not built to last
We purchased this item less than 2 years ago, about a month ago dishes on top stopped getting clean, we realized that the top water sprayer was not turning, now the bottom isn't cleaning either, we were going to call for a repair, but decided that Kenmore just isn't cutting it any more, in the last ten years and less we have had to replace all our Kenmore products, in 2-5 years.

Good dishwasher, great sale price

Easy to install, unless you're in an older house. Not Kenmore's fault my house was built by cavemen. Works great, nice look, great price.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Install

This is the perfect dishwasher for my wife. She loves it. She didn't want all the bells and whistles and the price that comes with it. It was on sale at a great price and has only the options of settings that she will really use. It is so quiet that she has to get up close to it to hear it running. The length of the wash cycle is about one hour and forty-five minutes which is fine with her. It also has a one hour wash cycle if she needs the dishes inside. Very happy wife.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Idiosyncratic

At first my new Kenmore dishwasher left my dishes coated with a thin pale film. After other remedies failed, I flushed out the rinse-aid chamber with lots of plain water. The film went away and my dishes are rinsing clean. After much experimentation, I find the washer works best using a gel detergent (not powders or packets) and a rinse-aid chamber full of plain water. The writers of the user's manual recommend the very opposite--packets and rinse aid. I find the manual's recommendations regarding a number of issues to be counterproductive; it's as if the writers of the manual never used the washer. Despite the manual's shortcomings and the washer's idiosyncrasies, I would recommend this washer to anyone who needs an affordable quiet dishwasher that does a good job with light loads.

Works great

We are very pleased with this dishwasher. It is quiet and cleans the dishes well. We were in desperate need of a dishwasher quick, so the local Sears thankfully had it in stock.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Started on fire

We hadn't been very happy with our Kenmore Elite appliances. The dishwasher has had various problems. It died last month when it started on fire (see http://kitchenaidfire.com/) and the is no support for this. Sears service misled us. Too many problems with our Kenmore appliances, but it looks like it is time to shop elsewhere.

Hard to install

The area under the dishwasher where the conduit and the drain and the water line can go is more limited and less height under the dishwasher (the pump hangs down in a large part of the area where you'd like to run the connections), so this was really tough to install where I removed the older dishwasher. For that alone, I wouldn't recommend it, unless you have a brand new installation with flexibility to run that stuff from the sides. Of course, you can't figure out if the compression fitting is tight enough before you connect everything else, and to tighten it after everything else is connected is excruciating. I can't tell you how much foul language I had to use to get this connected. Exhausting. (And I'm pretty handy for an old lady DIY type, got all the tools and lots of experience.) It's got all the basics, but where my old D/W was a nice stainless shell, this one is plastic. I guess it's cheaper to ship from china. Sigh. Even the more expensive ones are all plastic now. Wish I coulda fixed the old one! Don't buy this unless you are very patient and experienced, OK? Haven't used it yet, but unless it's just wretched, I'm certainly not removing it!
