Product Description

Kenmore 20.6 cu. ft. Upright Freezer - Spacious, Functional

Designed with efficiency in mind, the Kenmore 8042 upright freezer has plenty of space for your food storage needs. With four fixed shelves, five movable door bins and a slide out basket, it can hold up to 721 pounds of frozen food. A soft-freeze zone keeps your bread, butter, ice cream and whipped toppings at a slightly warmer temperature for quicker consumption. An interior light allows you to see the freezer's contents with ease, and a security lock keeps small children from opening its door.

  • A spacious interior means better organization, easier access and more storage options, which makes this freezer perfect for pizzas, ice cream, fish, meats and bulk buys.
  • Slide-out baskets keep smaller, daily necessities within reach to simplify storage and make moving easy when it’s time to reach deep.
  • An on-door Soft Freeze Zone is slightly warmer than the rest of the freezer, making sure your ice cream is always ready to eat.
  • An integrated security lock increases safety, helps deter theft and ensures a tight seal for a consistently cool storage environment that saves energy.
  • Adjustable shelving delivers flexibility and customization that adapts to your needs, whether it be storing bulk buys, catches from the last fishing trip or party supplies.

Energy efficient, COLDER THAN ICE, and huge....what else do you need?
I purchased this freezer some time last year so my girlfriend and I could stock up on more bulk frozen foods than the fridge/freezer would leave room for, and so I could save a buck or two by buying beef in whole primals, cutting them into steaks and roasts myself, and freezing them. I specifically wanted as much capacity in an upright as possible, but a good and affordable price as well. I also wanted something extremely energy efficient and manual defrost, because automatic defrost freezers both... A: Consume way more electricity....almost double! And... B: Due to the automatic defrost cycle, the temperature inside the freezer is less stable, which contributes to freezer burn. So far, I've had it for almost a year and I haven't defrosted it yet. There's a little ice buildup on some of the shelves, but it's not near as bad as these people are making it sound. If your freezer has excessive frost buildup, you need to make sure your door is aligned properly and that the seal is making a good seal. Electricity use is minimal....my electricity bills haven't gone up since purchasing it, and being manual defrost you're only using electricity to make the inside cold. (Automatic defrost units waste energy heating up the evaporator coils to melt off condensation that has frozen to them) This freezer gets COLD! My thermometer in the door regularly registers -20F, and I'm sure if I kept it on a shelf instead it would read even lower! Granted, it's on the coldest setting, but even commercial units struggle to get this low. Oh, and there's a ton of space inside. Like, tons and tons of space. I have not managed to buy enough stuff to fill this freezer yet, even after a year. I have had absolutely zero issues whatsoever, the thing just works for me. I used a coupon and my Sears card and got it for about $425. Not bad considering the fact that anything comparable would be $600+ on sale.

Needs to be recalled
We purchased this freezer and it was delivered with no problem until the next day. When I checked the freezer I noticed condensation inside the freezer and within a week I had about two inches of ice all over the inside. I noticed the seal was messed up on the side and called to have a tech come fix it. The tech came out and said the door was warped and he had to order a new one. Two weeks later the door arrived and the tech advised me that the door was damaged and it would be another week or so before a new one. I called and asked for another freezer be delivered which they did but again when I checked it the next day it was doing the same thing as the first one. We got a refund and bought a different freezer from another store and it works great. It looks like SEARS needs to look into this freezer and recall it for defects.

upright freezer purchase

This upright freezer purchase was a perfect fit for our household. It runs quiet and has tons of space and plenty of options of door space organizing. We are very happy with this purchase. We but allof our appliances from Sears and have done this for 30+ years and have always had great experiences and service. Thank you Sears!

20.6cu freezer upright

This freezer is easy to load but picks up frost very fast. You cannot keep the door open very long for the frost to build up. So I would advise loading before you plug it in. The closed in shelves on the door are a very nice touch. You can put all kinds of things in these shelves/baskets. All in all I think it will be suitable for our needs.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Love it!

I love it. We couldn't fit a chest freezer into our basement so we went with an upright. I love not having to dig down to the bottom of a chest freezer (I'm short and it's kind of hard to get to the bottom). We also got it on sale and couldn't beat the price!
