Usually, I expect that if there is a photo attached to an item, you receive what you order. The on-line Sears photo for this fridge shows an ice maker - even for model 68892 (which as it turns out does not come with one). I specifically wanted an ice maker, but now that it has arrived, I am stuck with it. An add-on ice maker would cost @ $200. Not going there, so I am stuck unhappy with the purchase.
WARNING! It is imperative that I mention this serious safety hazard at the beginning of my review. The freezer handle on this Sears Kenmore refrigerator, model number: 68892 (253-68892014) is a dangerous safety hazard. The freezer handle extends to the bottom of the freezer door and the bottom part juts too far out, way too far out. Whenever a person puts his or her head in the refrigerator compartment to retrieve an item, when you are lifting your head from the refrigerator compartment, you may, can, and will bust, crack or hit you head on the ?sharp? bottom part of the freezer handle! I busted my head on the bottom part of the freezer handle as I described it above. I received a big gash on my fore-head and the blood streamed out and I cursed and had a little head ache. It was serious enough for me to go to the emergency room. This is a serious product design. I reported this to the Sears customer service representative. He took this as a serious matter, made a note of it and said he would report it to his superiors. I will report it further. I guarantee in some household somewhere, an 8, 9, 10 year old kid will bust his/her head on the freezer handle retrieving items from the refrigerator compartment. I was gonna just reverse the freezer handle and I realized you just can?t reverse the freezer handle alone, you have to reverse both the freezer handle and the refrigerator handle and the same problem would still exist. Solution: Remove the freezer handle. To remove the freezer handle is easy. Just unscrew the two screws on the bottom of the freezer handle, push the freezer handle up a little bit, turn it to the left about 90 degrees and push and lift it off the retaining screw. And ?Presto,? the danger is removed. Just like that! That?s it! You?ll say, Wow! The freezer compartment door looks even smoother, clearer and cleaner without the freezer handle. To open the freezer, I place my fingers straight up above where the handle used to be, right on the corner, and pull. Works like a champ! Or you can grab the top of the freezer door in any position in that track that runs behind the top of the freezer door. You can leave the retaining screw in place. That?s what I did. Or you can take it out and have a hole to look at. You can place your doctor appointments, post-it-notes or some other reminder over the screw and you?ll have a good looking bulletin board! Now, to finish my review. I purchased my refrigerator on March 5, 2014. This refrigerator is nice looking with a smooth texture. It looks nice in the kitchen. I looked at about 10 at Sears and then went to an appliance store. This model was the best, I think, of all the ones that I looked at, including the $2,000 - $3,500 dollars ones. I like the see through glass shelves. They slide out so you can more easily reach items in the back. You can move the shelves up or down to make the kind of space you desire between the shelves. The door racks are a blessing! Nice and wide. Runs the length of the door. I like ?em better than individual bins. The door racks will hold jugs, jars, bottles and gallons. You can just reach in there and grab what you want without hindrances The freezer compartment has an adjustable shelf so you can place food on and under the shelf. Very convenient. The freezer is also self-defrosting. The Crispers bins that hold the fruits and vegetables are not full size. They are kind of slanted in the back, towards the middle and cuts off half of the bins. The back part looks like the end of a ski slope. The Crispers are made that way because the compressor is on the bottom of the refrigerator taking up space were a full size Crisper could fit nicely. The light bulb is in the middle of the refrigerator, above the top shelf. The bulb is ?naked?. No shield to protect it. Please be careful when moving items around so you won?t break the bulb. Or lower the shelf if you want more space. The refrigerator has good lighting. You can see what you?re looking for. The deli drawer is affixed to the top shelf. You can reach in and get your bologna and hot dogs but the drawer can?t be taken all the way out. Well, it can come out if you struggle, press and lift. I think it?s made not to be taken out. I did not want the ice maker, water dispenser and a lot of fancy stuff. ?The simple, the better?. This refrigerator will do what the top of the line refrigerators did back in the 60?s, 70?s and 80?s. Keep your food and produce cold. This refrigerator has rollers, (wheels) that make it easy to pull out and clean behind it. It was amazing, I kinda pulled on it and it rolled out like toilet paper. The refrigerator was kind of loud the first day when I plugged it in, but after a day of running, I think, after it makes it adjustments, the sounds will stabilize and it will be hardly noticeable at times. I timed it for 2 weeks. It turns on and off periodically for cooling and defrosting. Summary: All in all, this is an excellent refrigerator. Excellent price too. The price will fluctuate on sale anywhere from $68.00 to $150.00 within a few days as compared to in-store and Sears?s web site. I purchased mine in-store and the next day when I looked at my delivery schedule, the price was $68.00 dollars less. I went to Sears and the clerk adjusted my purchase price to match the Sears web site and credited me with $68.00. That made it worthwhile to me to purchase this refrigerator. If you are planning on buying a refrigerator, take a look at this one. BYE!
I was in the market for a 2nd refrigerator as mine was from the 1970's and went into the store with knowing what I wanted, or so I thought. I then saw this model and knew this was it. I liked tha glass shelves in the event of a spill, it wouldn't run down to the bottom of the appliance. I am very happy with it all the way aroud. AS I host the hoidays for the entire family, it is important to me to have an extra refrigrator and this serves that purpose well. It would be perfet for an appartment or for some one just starting out.
Bought this refrigerator for Grandma since she really needed a new one & couldn't afford it. After much research we got this Kenmore. Grandma's old one was a Kenmore so she was happy. Height was a big factor, had to be white, & top freezer. There were only (3) to choose from. They all seem so cheaply made nowadays. Eliminate the one with wire shelves, & where's the deli drawer??? That left one model... the most expensive one. Free delivery. She had it in two days. It runs nice & quiet. I like the rounded edges on the door. Grandma misses the light in the freezer, (& nickel ice cream cones, but so be it).
This refrigerator keeps temp well, runs well and looks good. My only complaint is that it is kind of loud (much louder than the 15 year old frig I replaced it with).
I was initially excited for this fridge because it had virtually every feature I wanted for the best price. However, my online shopping experience was poor and the quality comes closer to reflecting a reconditioned model at $400 rather than an $800 unit direct out of the box. Unlike other reviews, the noise does not bother me. It is relatively quiet although it does make some noises I am not accustomed to. The construction is very poor. Both sides are rippled, the inside is indented, and the piece of sheet metal on the bottom of the unit in the back is installed with an insufficient number of screws, so portions are pulling away from the unit. These are all things I could easily ignore, if it were not for the fact that the light in the fridge does not turn off. The assembly that holds the light and temperature control was installed too far from the door. It made no difference that I appropriatly leveled it. The assembly is designed to hug the contour of the interior, and there is an empty space showing it was not installed forward enough. So now my Energy Star fridge is running a 40 watt bulb 24/7. In addition, why is this unit ALWAYS on sale? I work in retail, and prices eventually go back to the EDLP, unless of course it is a scam to make you think you are getting a unit worth $800. And why are sale start and end dates not referenced anywhere on the product page online? Every other retailer I shopped supplied this information next to the current pricing. I got frustrated with the lack of this information, and the price changing at least 4 times in a 5 day period. This company's practices are questionable at best, which is unfortunate for the employees who were the one bright spot in my buying experience. My first real experience with Sears is definetly my last.

My wife & I bought one of these, had to return it due to a bad door seal. The replacement was a little better, but the freezer temp varied 20 degrees, not good! We then switched to a frigidaire, much better. The customer service dept. is a joke!(if you have a problem, call the store, not c.s.) Sears: k-mart quality without the blue light specials!
