Product Description

Kenmore 13.7 cu. ft. Upright Freezer - Optimal Efficiency

Get the storage space you need with the features you desire with this Kenmore upright freezer 8432. Several removable shelves and slide-out baskets hold up to 480 pounds, perfect for your produce or bulk shopping storage. Door ajar and high temperature alarms are audible as well as visible to prevent food spoilage, while a control lock-out function eliminates inadvertent changes in temperature. Exterior controls are easy to read and provide peace of mind, while its frost-free design eliminates the need for manual defrosting.

  • Slide-out baskets keep smaller, daily necessities within reach to simplify storage and make moving easy when it’s time to reach deep.
  • Designed to help prevent spoiled food and save money on cooling, a built-in alarm system lets you know when interior temperatures are on the rise or when the door is left ajar.
  • Designed to hold temperatures steady, prevent tampering and keep kids out of trouble, the control lockout option delivers an extra layer of security against spoiled food.
  • Enhanced air flow design channels cold air, around, over and across your freezer’s contents for superior refrigeration, balanced performance and consistently frozen foods.

So far, so good
This freezer replaces a 15 cu ft Kenmore we had for about 30 years. It still worked, but the seals were going bad and there was some rust here and there. We've had this freezer for nearly a month. It's in the garage, so noise is not a factor, but even so, it's not that loud. It does seem to run frequently, even on cools days and nights. With a 4 setting, it keeps food hard as a rock. Somehow, my wife finds it easier to find stuff and it seems bigger even though it's nominally smaller than the old freezer. The only misgiving we have is that the heat dispersion coils are in the sides and top, so we can no longer pile stuff on top of the new item as we did with the old one. We're contemplating a rack to go on top to provide the required 3 inch clearance, and yet be able to store the pet carrier and picnic cooler.

Digital Control Freezer

This freezer was purchased in January 2012.  We only had it a month or so and the freezer shut down and we lost all the food we had in it.  Sears repairman came out and said the freezer had a bad control and would order a new one.  He said there had been problems with the digital controls.  It has worked great until today, August 2012, and it has gone out again.  I have lost another freezer of food.  We did purchase extended warranty but they only cover the loss of food once a year.  They will not be here to check it out for a week and I'm not interested in another control.  I'm afraid to trust this freezer with more food.  Don't buy this freezer, it's terrible.  I think digital anything is junk!

Upright contender

Having come from a smaller self-defrost freezer that I had for 20 years to this model, I noticed some distinct differences. There are several new features such as a light inside and an exterior temperature control and door ajar alarm. A concern I have is that it seems to run nearly all the time. I know this is due to the self defrost feature, but I'll be checking my electric bill to see if there is an increase.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Works Great

This freezer, while it does not have a shelf to freeze items fast, was able to freeze all items places it fast and solid. Unlike the freezer it replaces my ice cream in now nice and hard as well as all my meats. I like the freezer control on the outside of the door, no more moving items to set the temp.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Upright Freezer

Excited about not having to defrost this unit. Well worth the extra money to pay for this option. Perfect size for garage storage. I like the basket on the bottom for items that need to be crated.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Newly Purchased Freezer, Washer & Dryer

The freezer seems to be working fine. All that was required of us was removal of tape, plastic bands, and installation of door handle. The washer was connected for us and all required was removal of protective tape. The dryer was another story. The door was backwards and could have been installed with correct opening prior to delivery. Also the dryer came with a range electric cord installed which would not fit the outlet. We had to reverse the door ourselves or wait for a tech to come and do it. We reversed it ourselves. We also had to deinstall the range electric cord and exchange at the Sears store and reinstall. This should have been done properly at the factory and checked prior to delivery.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
