I have had 3 humidifiers prior to this one from Kenmore and have been super happy with them. Almost cried when the last one died out out wear. This new 12gallons is deceiving, it's the output not volume capacity to hold water. The construction is very poor, the plastic wellds for the water tank are very rough, not even and the tank is kind of cocked. The water tank fill up is on the side and makes it almost impossible to fill up unless you fill it in your tub or have a big bathroom sink. As the water level goes down and the resevoir tank releases water, it sounds like a toilet being flushed and will wake you up in the middle of the night 5-6 times depending on fan velocity. I could careless about the inaccurate humidity digital reader, but I do care that the fan speed 2 died after 2 weeks. I am not returning it, because I threw out the box and I'm not carrying this mini R2D2 back to the store. I am upset and disappointed with the construction quality and very poor design. I am a big fan of Kenmore appliances, but this one takes the cake for the worst appliance I have ever bought from Sears.
I researched lots of humidifiers and decided I liked what I read. When the fan is on low, it isn't too loud. I wish there was a way to tell if I had put 12 gallons of water in each time. I found out today I had enough water in there and did not need the full 24 gallons. The humidifier just retained the extra water and as needed you heard it deposit into the machine.
This humidifier is perfect for any area with electronics. With ultrasonic humidifiers you have to be careful of "white dust" and this one is evaporative so white dust is not a problem. Brought a 650 sq ft room from below 20% humidity to 38% humidity in 1 hour! Very simple to program and works great.
We are quite pleased with this. It: is easy to move and manage runs quietly enough after getting humidity level up to or near desired level meets the need of a 1,400 square foot ranch. But, don't try to de-mineralize or wash the filter - it's made of paper and will break apart easily if handled too much
Worked well but seems like I'm always filling the tank. We had another whole house humidifier but it constantly leaked. We haven't had any problems with leaking with this one.
Have hot water heat, unit worked well until the temps. got down around 15F or lower, unit runs constantly on high speed and can only get the humidity level up to 20-21 and I replaced the wick last week. If you have dry heat as I do, look for another style of humidifier maybe a wheel type or ultra sonic.

Can't write much of a review with only 3000 characters, right? See ******. Allowed more space there. Basically, Kenmores are a bunch of junk, along with everything else made in China these days. This is no different, but it works. If yours doesn't work, then take it back. Get another and repeat if necessary. Mine works, and I'm happy. I bought it at local Sears just so that I could return it if necessary. Luckily, no issues as of yet. My bedroom has high ceilings and a 1 gallon Vicks humidifier doesn't do anything. This, on the otherhand, has enough capacity to burn through two gallons a night and maintain 40%+, even with a space heater running.. On the weekends, I'll run it down the hallway on F4 all day, burning through 6 gallons/day and maintaining 30%-40% depending upon how long my central heat runs. Prior to using this, my house has averaged 16%-25%, especially with the "polar vortexes" driving the temps really low and the long run time of the central heat. I have a very large house, but this does a good job. I can get most of the house up to 35% after running this for a few hours and up to 40% if running this all day on high. The areas near this can maintain 40% on low. The downstairs slowly get up to where I need it and maintains as long as this is on high. But then, my house is larger than what this is rated for. I have moderately hard water and using tap water along with the oldon Solution Combination Water Treatment and Bacteriostatic #246 works well. Just a few capfuls per tank, which holds two gallons. In fact, the base holds two gallons also. I have had no leaks. The pad stays moist. It has remained clean for the two weeks that I've owned it. Today, I let it dry out so that I could wipe (wipe, not scrub) the little dirt from the base. I'll likely run the filter in the dishwasher with two cups of white vinegar in a week or two. The water treatment doesn't smell, and keeps mold from growing in the filter. If you've ever owned a swamp cooler, you know those things stink after a while. Not this. Just use the additive and replace the filter if it gets gross (1-2 months). Yes, it's flimsy, so be careful if moving it. The fan part sits on the base in these little tracks. Failure to line it up can result in leaks. The tank leans on it. So if pushing on carpet, you might want to be careful and let most of your water evaporate before you even try it. I've had it on carpet for two weeks with no issues. F1 is fairly quiet. If you are very sensitive to noise in your bedroom, then move it into your bathroom or at least 10 feet away. I had a cold, and this was great at adding cool moisture to help me sleep. The auto feature to turn fan on/off is great. Ability to use tap water, large capacity, ability to work in very large rooms all are pros. Wimpy construction is a minor negative, but as long as you don't man-handle it, you shouldn't have any issues.
Bought this today and the electronic control doesn't work. As others have noted, it continues to flash F indicating it needs to be filled although it is full. The fan settings are unresponsive. Going back as soon as I have time. Very disappointed.
Works great. No more static electricity from the carpets, placing the humidifier near the cold air duct in the middle of the home. You must refill the resovoir once per day.
