I had a hard time finding an AC unit to fit my sliding window configuration and this one suited my room needs and window size. Having never installed any AC before, I read the instructions a few times and was very confused. Once I started however,it installed fairly easily with a few modifications on my part, mostly regarding the window height and anchoring. I added a few extra screws to secure it and cut a board to fit the opening, as the one provided was not large enough.. Once installed it cooled my small house within a few hours on the hottest day of the year.I didnt have a stroke installing it, kept my cool, and now I'm enjoying a cool, comfortable home.
Ordered in 2010. Installer did not adequately seal the area around the unit. When I called to complain, they asked him and he said something about the old air conditioner and existing wood-neither of which had anything to do with their failure to seal the area around the unit. Four calls to Sears for help, installer refused to call, contact me or fix problem. Bottom line, I had to pay someone else to insulate as it should have been when installed.
One year later unit is making a loud, grinding noise and spitting water back into the room. Called for service, took a week to get an appointment. Service man came out - Naturally, unit working fine when he came. Have to wait another week for an appointment - in 86 degree heat.
Need to keep unit on 64 degrees to keep two adjacent rooms (12x18, 12x13) cool . Takes longer to cool than my old 10K Kenmore with higher utility bills. Get the extended service agreement. 90 day warranty is a joke.
Timer is great. Filter is easy to clean. But, once it gets cool, it stays cool. Serviceman said energy saver is only for use when you are out of the house.
Purchased this air conditioner as my condo was too hot and had no air conditioning. This absolutely cooled the kitchen, dining room and living room . Nice and cool now can cook in the kitchen and not be sweaty. Very good air conditioner. Had Sears install it as I am a widow and the men were professional and pleasant to work with. Plus it took less than an hour to install. Well worth the money. Kenmore is great.
This is a replacement of our prior Kenmore casement A/C unit that we had for 15 years until it started making noise. This one is better with remote control, quieter and seems to cool better. Both units cool a 1,800 sq. ft. house easly.

In Seattle we don't often need AC but this summer has been the exception. This unit is cooling a very large master suite. It has a large walk-in (uninsulated) closet, sitting/TV and sleeping area as well as three large skylights. Areas closer to the unit are of course cooler, but all rooms/areas are comfortable. The only reason I didn't give this AC five star rating is the fan is a bit loud for sleeping. It would have been great to have one more lower setting. We have become used to it now, so it's bearable.
I read the instructions a couple of times & was still confused so I ditched them & it was a breeze, pardon the pun. The nice thing is it came with everything, including the window support bracket - saved me an additional $30. The unit is relatively quiet & cooled my oven of a room of 550 sq ft in about an hour & was well pleased with the performance. Also, it was light weight compared to a similar unit. Kenmore makes great quality products.
I bought this unit because of the reliable Kenmore name, as well as the particular shape of the unit, as it fits our thin double-hung window (16.5" wide). I expected it to be good, I did not know it would far exceed my expectations. I have had this unit for six summer seasons, and it has not once disappointed. It cools three rooms down from a 95 degree humid day amazingly well. My wife is not crazy about the noise of the fan, but it does not bother me, as the trade-off to be comfortable in intolerable hot and humid weather is a good one. Despite the fact that air conditioners generally "do not go well around corners," I simply turn on the ceiling fan in one room, and it cools off the next room around a wall, and another room which is down the hallway over 20 feet away from the unit. I was thrilled. Energy saving options are good, although it is always going to cost money to run an air conditioner. The energy saver options reduce fan use during the day (not the condensor), but the s
My husband is finishing up the 2 hr install. Yes, it came with an install pkg for the casement window but it didn't include enough screws, nor were the screw holes (in the mounting areas) big enough. Then the height of the window opening is appx 5" taller than the included window adapter Lastly, Yes, there was a metal strip on which the unit would sit for the purpose of balancing the whole back end of it out the window, but our window slider track is about an inch high so that metal piece wasn't really sturdy enough. Luckily my husband is quite the handyman so he was able to redrill holes, add a 5" inch strip of metal with proper insulation at the top of the window, and then create a 1" lift on the window sill to support the mounting bracket from inside to outside the window.--I'm thinking that the "average" bear is going to want to hire a handyman to deal with the installation. Now that its in & on, it runs great: the room cooled fast & we'll be sleeping great tonite!
