Purchased Kenmore #85042 OTR microwave Jan. 2012. Started buzzing very loudly & smelled of burning plastic after a few months. Had 6 service calls (3 diagnostic & 3 repair) while under 1 yr. manuf. warranty. Magnetron was replaced. Then high voltage transformer was replaced. Neither thing fixed problem. High voltage transformer was replaced a 2nd time, along with diode & HV Cap Asy. Buzzing less loud but not as quiet as originally operated. Ten months later (22 months after purchase), microwave started on its own when microwave door was closed without touching anything else. Happened 2nd time, and since this could be a fire hazard, we unplugged it, left door open & contacted Sears immediately. Sears would not replace it but provided $100 gift card toward replacement microwave. Unfortunately, they are still selling this item manufactured by Samsung w/ Kenmore label despite possible fire hazard.
After 13 years of loyal service, our under the cabinet microwave bit the dust. Of course, this was just one week before Thanksgiving! So, my husband set out on a mission to get a new one at a good price that was at least comparable to our old one. This one fit the bill. They were actually sold out of them, so sold us the floor model at a greatly discounted price. This microwave was easy to install and is straight forward and user friendly. It has many features that I did not have in the previous one and so far I really like it. I would definitely recommend this to someone looking to purchase a new microwave.

Bought this microwave in Feb.2012, we installed it ourselves, very easy, it was noisy from beginning, got louder as time went on,called Sears service, they came out, said basically,it is what it is.That's your magnetron. Called again a few months later, service tech. says that's your magnetron, it is fairly heavy and it is mounted on a light weight piece of aluminum, that is the aluminum vibrating, when microwave is run for more than 5 minutes or so, the loud buzz quitens down allot, because the aluminum is warm and more flexable to the weight of the magnetron. A few months back, microwave including magnetron running, would not shut off,no matter what, even unplugging, waiting and plugging back in, still running, then it just fixed itself, i don't know how or why. Today 10/30/2013 it is doing it again, will not, no matter what I try, shut off. So, it is a piece of expensive junk, that while in warranty, there is nothing Sears can do about it, but the year warranty is out,and of course, they WON"T do a thing. Therefore, I'm keeping a small sledge hammer near the possessed microwave and I may DO Something about it. If you buy one of these great Kenmore microwaves, pray it falls out of your pickup on the way home.

Thoroughly pleased. Easy installation. Love the sensor cook feature. Only issue was the Nite Lite; bulb burned out in 6 days and it is a 20 watt halogen, about $18.00 at Sears Parts. Fortunately under warranty,

I am pleased with the operation and the looks of this microwave; however, having the microwave only two days one of the plastic holders (to hold the rack) completely melted and the rack dropped onto the plate. The service man came out and the plastic holder was ordered which I received yesterday. I find this a little disturbing as it was used only twice when this happened. The service man suggested that it could have been something on the rack that made it spark and therefore melting the plastic holder. I hope this does not happen again.

After owning and using this microwave for less than 2 years, it has completely stopped working. It has been used by a family of 4, normal use, and everything just stopped completely one day. I would not recommend it unless you need the bisque color, which is why I got it.

Very good basic microwave. Not a bit of trouble with it. The only really disappointing thing is the chimes are not very load and hard to hear. No way to increase the volume. It is so bad that I'm looking to replace it.
