Not quite as sturdy as the 25 year old Kemore it replaced. I guess they don't make appliances like they used to! I do have to admit this was the cheapest model and it does what it is supposed to.
We had to go to more than one Sears store to see an actual unit. Not all Sears locations carry a trash compactor model on their floor. The salesman had to special order it and we needed to wait several days in order to go back and pick it up. While the unit works great in itself, we were disappointed that it was not 100% stainless steel as the salesman pitched and that the top of the free standing unit was scratched. I spent several hours over two days on the phone being transferred to one Sears representative to another. We were eventually able to resolve the issue through a price reduction. While there were some bumps along the road with this purchase, we are overall very pleased with the function of the unit. It is very easy to add and remove the trash bags. We have an immediate family of four individuals and normally have about five Glad trash bags of normal trash each week. With this trash compactor, we only use one bag per week. Another inconvenience is that the trash compactor bags are special and I have found that the best price of these bags should be purchased online. Planning in advance is not a problem in needing to wait for them to be delivered. I would like to see Sears have a better way to handle complaints as it seemed unnecessary to be constantly transferred over several hours and several days. At this present time we are content with the purchase.
I have had my compactor for only a few weeks, and so far I LOVE it! It is somewhat noisy when compacting, but that was to be expected. The measurements were dead on and the space I left open for the compactor was perfect with no gaps, and no squeezing it in.

It is a good compactor. It does compacting very well. Easy to operate and has a sleek look. It is a very light compactor and takes very little push to close the moving bin. Low noise operation compared to the one I had. Very satisfied that I made this purchase.

I bought this yesterday. I had an earlier model that lasted about 4 years, and when it died i bought this one. I usually pay attention to the reviews, but in this case not enough. One review stated that it doesent compress. As i had an earlier model.i figured that this person just didnt know how to use it,so i bought it. The ram goes down to compress, but as soon as its down it comes back up. The garbage doesent compress well this way. The other one had a ram that stayed down, compressing the garbage until you pushed the button to send it back up. I got all upset, and ready to send it back, but realized that at the bottom of the cycle if i pushed the off button the ram would stay down compressing the garbage until the on button was pushed. Doing this the **** thing works great, and i am keeping it. If you dont do it as i have listed, dont buy one of these as i guess as some of us have reviewed, they dont work correctly

We have owned our previous whirlpool trash compactor for over 40 years. Love the style - stainless steel- quietness and the foot pedal on this one. Seems to work as it should so far. Have only had this compactor one week, but really like it so far. It matches my other stainless steel appliances, looks great, performs well. I have no regrets on this product.

We bought this to replace an old Maytag that was already in the house when we purchased it. It had seen better days and we wanted a SS one. My husband installed it with little problem. Works fine, but my only complaint is that it doesnt really "smash" down the trash very well. The old Maytag worked great at smashing the trash down, this Kenmore seems like it barely mashes anything. Then when you think the trash is full because it isnt mashing down - you still have at least half a bag of room left! For an expensive compactor you'd think it would really compact your trash instead of hardly compacting at all. Disappointing.
