Sears 1 HP disposal Model 60591
1. You'll need to pick up Plumbers putty if you're replacing the mounting assembly. A Small 14 oz. can of plumbers putty should be more than enough. 2. If you're connecting a dishwasher drain line, remember to follow section 8 in the instructions and remove the knockout plug. The black metal plug is located inside the dishwasher inlet pipe (part J) on the side of the unit (about the size of a nickel). Otherwise your dishwasher will not drain. Maybe this will help someone avoid my mistake. 3. The unit is quiet and I like the auto-reversing feature capability. A 9 year warranty for an appliance is exceptional.

This is a HORRIBLE disposer!
We bought this in 2009 with the nine-year warranty. In 2010 it went bad and we had to get a new one. The second one just went bad AGAIN and we have to replace that one! The gaskets on them corrode and they start leaking.

Quiet and powerful

I am very impressed with this item. It takes up a bit more room under the sink but is quiet and powerful.

Nom...Nom...Nom....

This is one hungry disposal. It eats up everying I give it and is SOOO quiet! I bought this with fingers crossed since I had not been able to see this model in action and did not want to get a quieter model. I'm very happy!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Works, but noisy

We were replacing a 30 year old, low end, Kenmore disposal. The installation was very simple, and the unit works as it should. But the claim, "Deluxe sound insulation for very quiet performance", is not true. If anything, this unit is louder than the one it replaced.

Disappointed

I believe this product is over rated. I purchased it because it was rated as heavy duty and decent noise level. It's already making unusable noises and is very loud. I should have bought the equivalent at **********.

Great

I was a little disappointed that it was still as loud as it was, but my husband said the level of quiet is when it's grinding. Works very well, we are happy with our purchase.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Install notes

This model installed easily and is quieter than our very old KitchenAid model, which was 1/2 hp. The wrench that comes with it has "food waste disposal" stamped on the side, so you know from whence it comes, after you throw it into the draw until it is needed. Notes: 1. It fit the old flange, which was stainless and in good condition, so we didn't install the Kenmore one (it comes with the name "Kenmore" on it. 2. If you are putting in a new flange, you need a small amount of plumber's putty. 3. If this is a new install, you will need electrical twist-caps for the hookup to your wall switch driven electrical on/off. Also, you may want a standard screw-in stress-relief for the electric cable. Otherwise, re-use the ones from the old install. 4. If it is a new install, you probably need suitable plastic connections for the main drain. Otherwise, we were able to reuse the connections from the very old (over 9 years) with no problem, i.e. all was standard.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
