It does not measure humidity correctly, causing it to run constantly without shutting off. I sent it in to be serviced and it came back saying "runs within specification". I do not recommend anyone purchase it.
We purchased this unit for our basement. It is really doing the job! No tell-tale smell of any moisture remains and we feel it is doing an excellent job of pulling the moisture out of the air.

Love the unit, no problems and works as it should. Bought this after Sandy, for my basement. Living by the water I need this in my basement year round. Hasn't cost a bundle to run either.
I bought this unit to accommodate humidity from a small indoor pool that is being constructed in my home. I tried the dehumidifier out a couple of weeks before the pool was finished. At first I was impressed with all the moisture it removed and I happily emptied the bucket daily. Then it stopped. It turns on, it makes noise like the motor is running and as though it is working, but it is not pulling moisture out of the air --- the bucket remains empty. The pool was filled with water two days ago. They haven't installed the cover yet that is supposed to hold in a lot of moisture and needless to say it is getting really humid in the room with the pool. This dehumidifier is plugged in and "running" but not doing anything. The bucket still remains empty and is not filling up with water. I have to open windows, open doors, and run the exhaust fans throughout the house to try to get rid of the humidity.
This unit is located in a storage building and runs continually. Being Washington state the humidity is high enough to need constant use. It has been effective at reducing the humidity in the building from February to July. While I do not now remember the estimated cost of operating this unit for a year, this shop is on it's own meter which has averaged $10-15 per month for years. As soon as we plugged this unit in the bill doubled for a time, and then doubled again to $48 this last month. Using a Kill-A-Watt unit the estimated monthly cost of power was $22.90 after 1 1/2 hours, but after 8 hours the Kill-A-Watt estimate was $29.76. No other dehumidifier I have used in this building has consumed this much power. Just watching the meter spin on the building goes much faster than before this dehumidifier is plugged in, and that's with another dehumidifier in a separate building on the same meter. I suspect it may be defective, but have to send it out to find out. Perhaps I can find someone with an inductive amp meter to test current usage.
I set up one of these sleek dehumidifiers in my 900 sq ft basement and it brought the humidity down quickly and quietly. But it would not turn off after reaching the desired humidity. The compressor turned off while the fan ran for three minutes and then the compressor would start again and run for ten minutes, then the cycle repeated endlessly. I exchanged the unit for the same model, but the second unit did the same thing so I returned.it. Sears was very obliging and took both units back with no hassle. Do not buy one of these unless the salesman can verify that this problem has been identified and fixed. BTY, I am a retired engineer and I am pretty sure that I did not make any mistakes in setting up or operating this unit. .
