Best grill yet
I've been using using gas grills for about 30 years and have tried many brands. Our last grill was an $1800 model by Vermont Castings. Our problems have always been caused by where we live; Louisiana weather will eat a grill up. No amount of baked on enamel will protect steel when you live here and cast iron grates are gone in a year. We've had the Kenmore 415.16649010 in brushed stainless steel finish for three years and it's held up beautifully. About 85% of the grill is made from stainless and the enameled steel parts are mostly not exposed to cooking. Unfortunately, the firebox is enameled and very susceptible to rusting. Just to be safe, I've lined the firebox sidewalls and bottom with several layers of heavy-duty aluminum foil. This has worked well to protect the steel and after three years is finally ready for a fresh lining of foil. The steel in the grill is high quality and with a normal amount of wiping after use, it has not suffered more than a few spots of minor discoloration. I know that even stainless will discolor when exposed to heat, moisture, and salt. We paid our Sears dealer about $100 to assemble the grill and install the conversion unit for natural gas and it was money well-spent. My only complaint has to do with the rotisserie unit that was recommended at the store for this grill. The Master Forge Stainless Universal Rotisserie (mod. FL-6107-2SQ) is an excellent unit and has given good service but I had to modify (bend) the mounts to get the unit to fit the grill. I have filed the sharp corners to prevent damage to the cover. I try to get the grill under our porch when rain is threatening but it has had a few soakings. So far this had not caused a problem- I wipe out the water from inside the cabinets and pour the collected water out of the grease tray and it keeps on ticking. BTW, it helps to keep the grease tray cleaned out! I researched this grill before buying and read complaints about the btu's generated and the large opening at the back of the cover. In the past I've struggled to cook on grills that wanted to incinerate the food (i.e. Vermont Castings). For me the Kenmore gives just the right amount of heat. I have yet to burn food on this grill, including with the rotisserie, and the cooking time is reasonable. Plus, the gap at the back of the cover makes visual inspection of the food without raising the lid easy to do when the halogen lamps are turned on. All in all, it's been a great value for the money and it still looks good!

Cheap materials, poor quality, bad design
After 8 years with my last Kenmore 4 burner grill, it was time for a new one. I wanted something bigger, and had such a great experience with the previous grill, that this seemed like a good choice. Unfortunately, I could not have been more wrong. The lack of quality of this grill was astounding. The stainless steal is less than 1/10 of an inch thick, and you can flex any part of it with just one finger. On the inside, the flame tamers (flimsy pieces of metal sitting over the burners) were completely covered with rust after just 2 uses. The only thing they seem to be capable of is creating uneven heat distribution. Design wise, I also found the tiny red dot on the knobs difficult to see in most cases, making it hard to tell from a glance if any burners are left on. Additionally, the already mentioned difficulty of getting a propane tank in or out cannot be overstated--it is not a trivial task with this grill. In the end, the only redeeming thing about buying this grill was the ease with which Sears took it back. The return was quick and painless. Unfortunately, this will definitely be the last Kenmore grill that I ever purchase. They used to be solid, high-quality and worth the price, but not anymore. The quality of this grill was not just below Kenmore standards, but easily below Brinkman or other off-brand, hardware store models.

Kenmore 5-burner gas grill

assembled in a snap , stainless construction look's great , heats up fast and even , love the electronic ignition feature , grates clean-up nicely after use ( compared to cast iron grates ) , side burner is a serious component ( enough btu's to do anything you desire ) . unit has been worry free , just add the propane and go ! this replaced a broil king , that had a history of grates rusting out . highly recommend the stainless steel grates for longevity and clean-up .

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great only if on sale

Nice big grill to cook a an entire cow on but....nowhere to hang spatula or tongs! The burners are not consistent in dissipating heat. The closer to the dials and the meat barely cooks, push the meat further back and it burns. I have to constantly be sliding and flipping. No walking away.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

No place for tools

So far I am enjoying the grill but with there were hooks or a basket for tools. No place to have anything. AND I wish there was a cover that fit properly. The 65" to too wide and too long.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Not worth the money

Bought this grill 2 years ago after having a Weber for 17 years. When I first used it the grill was okay. It heated up evenly and gave off a respectful amount of heat. It still cooks okay not great but just okay. I clean the grids after each use and give the entire grill a cleaning mid summer and at the end of summer. (clean diffusers, burners, burner box and grids thoroughly). I try to keep as close to new as I can. Had to go searching for screws for the magnets that hold the door shut (they kept coming off no matter how much I tightened them. I use a bungy cord to keep the doors closed. The other day the brackets that hold the warming rack came off entirely on one side a tilted on the other. There is no way to repair this. Had to buy baby bumper guards for side shelves because they kept ripping the cover I put on to protect the grill. sears used to have a great reputation when it came to their products. Not now, they are cheaply made and when you call the Customer service is horrible. I will have to by a warming rack with folding legs so I can enjoy. I will dump this grill at the end of this summer.
