Best grill yet
I've been using using gas grills for about 30 years and have tried many brands. Our last grill was an $1800 model by Vermont Castings. Our problems have always been caused by where we live; Louisiana weather will eat a grill up. No amount of baked on enamel will protect steel when you live here and cast iron grates are gone in a year. We've had the Kenmore 415.16649010 in brushed stainless steel finish for three years and it's held up beautifully. About 85% of the grill is made from stainless and the enameled steel parts are mostly not exposed to cooking. Unfortunately, the firebox is enameled and very susceptible to rusting. Just to be safe, I've lined the firebox sidewalls and bottom with several layers of heavy-duty aluminum foil. This has worked well to protect the steel and after three years is finally ready for a fresh lining of foil. The steel in the grill is high quality and with a normal amount of wiping after use, it has not suffered more than a few spots of minor discoloration. I know that even stainless will discolor when exposed to heat, moisture, and salt. We paid our Sears dealer about $100 to assemble the grill and install the conversion unit for natural gas and it was money well-spent. My only complaint has to do with the rotisserie unit that was recommended at the store for this grill. The Master Forge Stainless Universal Rotisserie (mod. FL-6107-2SQ) is an excellent unit and has given good service but I had to modify (bend) the mounts to get the unit to fit the grill. I have filed the sharp corners to prevent damage to the cover. I try to get the grill under our porch when rain is threatening but it has had a few soakings. So far this had not caused a problem- I wipe out the water from inside the cabinets and pour the collected water out of the grease tray and it keeps on ticking. BTW, it helps to keep the grease tray cleaned out! I researched this grill before buying and read complaints about the btu's generated and the large opening at the back of the cover. In the past I've struggled to cook on grills that wanted to incinerate the food (i.e. Vermont Castings). For me the Kenmore gives just the right amount of heat. I have yet to burn food on this grill, including with the rotisserie, and the cooking time is reasonable. Plus, the gap at the back of the cover makes visual inspection of the food without raising the lid easy to do when the halogen lamps are turned on. All in all, it's been a great value for the money and it still looks good!

Cheap materials, poor quality, bad design
After 8 years with my last Kenmore 4 burner grill, it was time for a new one. I wanted something bigger, and had such a great experience with the previous grill, that this seemed like a good choice. Unfortunately, I could not have been more wrong. The lack of quality of this grill was astounding. The stainless steal is less than 1/10 of an inch thick, and you can flex any part of it with just one finger. On the inside, the flame tamers (flimsy pieces of metal sitting over the burners) were completely covered with rust after just 2 uses. The only thing they seem to be capable of is creating uneven heat distribution. Design wise, I also found the tiny red dot on the knobs difficult to see in most cases, making it hard to tell from a glance if any burners are left on. Additionally, the already mentioned difficulty of getting a propane tank in or out cannot be overstated--it is not a trivial task with this grill. In the end, the only redeeming thing about buying this grill was the ease with which Sears took it back. The return was quick and painless. Unfortunately, this will definitely be the last Kenmore grill that I ever purchase. They used to be solid, high-quality and worth the price, but not anymore. The quality of this grill was not just below Kenmore standards, but easily below Brinkman or other off-brand, hardware store models.

Ever see a magnet stick to Stainless Steel? It SHOULD NOT, but is does....

If a magnet sticks to stainless steel, then it is stainless that has a HIGH iron content. Iron rusts, stainless does NOT. This is Chinese grade stainless steel, 340 quality, NOT 409 stainless. It will rust quickly. This grill rusts so fast that you will not have much of a grill left in 2 or 3 years. I've had mine always covered when not in use and it has RUSTED so badly that Sears has to replace it under the Sears Maintenance Agreement. When the technician came out to check the grill he told me that replacement parts would cost more than the grill costs, so the value of the grill was entered as a credit for me to get a replacement grill. I do NOT recommend this grill, even to my enemies. It is very, very cheaply made and although it looks good in the photos on Sears site, it will fail you very quickly and you will be out well over $500.00. You will have to replace it in a couple of years. Do you want to have to shell out $500.00 every few years to replace your grill? No, of course not, but you will have to do that IF YOU PURCHASE THIS GRILL. IT IS GARBAGE. DON'T BUY IT. Caveat Emptor: Buyer beware.

Poor Quality

I bought this grill 3 years ago and the it grills great, but it is not built well. All 5 of the shields above the burner rusted through, the bottom of the heat box is falling off of the grill, where the burners attach to the heat box has rusted out. It is complete junk, and last night I could not get it to light even though it had a new tank of propane and I could see the spark of the starter. What make it worse is that I purchased the 5 year agreement from Sears and they say it does not cover rust or corrosion, what else is going to happen to it? So I wasted money on the 5 year warranty since SEARS will not honor it. I kept the grill covered when not in use and it was protected from heavy winds and snow. I purchased this grill because I thought it would be of high quality at such a high cost for a Kenmore grill. Wish I would have spent a little more and purchased a Weber.

All Stainless Is All Good!

Really excited to have this high btu grill. Especially like the fact that the cabinet is all stainless sreel. Less chance of rusting out which h as s always been a problem. Large cooking area and love the searing back burner. Have done salmon and hamburgers with great results already. Of course, time will tell on how the components  hold up but it is designed to last. AAA+++!!!!!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

VERY GOOD FOR THE MONEY

I'VE HAD MY SEARS 5 BURNER GRILL FOR ABOUT 18 MONTHS NOW WITH NO PROBLEMS. IT GETS VERY HOT FOR SEARING, BUT THE HEAT IS VERY EVEN AMONG THE GRILLS. YOU WON'T FIND ANYTHING BETTER IN THIS PRICE RANGE.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Not worth the money

I bought this items two years ago and while it cooks very well the grill is made very poorly and does not last. If you are foolish enough to buy this grill get the 5 year warranty as it won't last. Within 2 years all of the pop rivets that hold the pieces together have failed. I believe this is due tp the heat in the main grill box. I can't believe that the product can't hold together in the most basic way for 2 years. Sears will not offer any warranty for poor craftmanship if you don't get the extended warranty. Oh, by the way, Weber and other offer a lifetime guarantee for the cabin and main assembly parts. I would not look at any Kenmore grill. Works great for 6 months but then it begins to fall apart and rust. By the way, it was covered all the time when not in use.

B-day gift conundrum

Took my wife and I about an hour to put together. Directions could be more clear but mounting hardware is pretty simple. I found one of the igniter wires dangling inside and it took a few minutes to trace where it SHOULD be connected. Haven't even used it yet and I've got to figure out how to find a solution for that in the manufacturer's warranty. wire was pulled out of the igniter inside the ceramic tip...no way to repair that. need a new one. Otherwise, it looks good and seems to be in working order. Grates are solid. Wires seem ok (otherwise). Knobs are all basic plastic. I'd say it's an average product.
